Neptun Ship Design carries out design, engineering and project management for ships and offshore plants. Within the complex value chains of international shipbuilding technical quality counts in profitability, classification requirements and requested ship performance. By merging the companies Neptun - Stahlkonstruktions GmbH Rostock, Wismarer Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH Wismar and Neptun Engineering GmbH Rostock the NEPTUN SHIP DESIGN GmbH was established with its head office in Rostock.

This way, we can proudly offer a customer-friendly integrated ship design as we are now able to provide all services needed. With our capacity of nearly 110 engineers, who are able to cover all building groups of a vessel (i.e. ship's theory, hull, outfitting, accommodation, machinery, piping, electric), we improved our capability to develop sophisticated projects in a short time.

As an independent naval architect Neptun produce tailor-made design. Based on high-performance software tools – e.g. NAPA, ANSYS, TRIBON, NUPAS, CADMATIC, ACAD – Neptun supplies
Initial Design with general arrangement drawings and relative documents, Basic Design including classification drawings and Detail Design with production drawings and relative documents.

First initial design
Optimization starts early

Quality in First Initial Design (FID) is of utmost importance for the further design and work proceeding. The main part of the building costs is determined in this stage. With sure knowledge of our clients’ wants and needs and valid know-how in shipbuilding technology Neptun offers in FID an overview of project dimensions and characteristic features of the ship.

The Basic Design (BD) determines another part of building costs. In this phase Neptun Ship Design produces all classification documents. Whether for GL, LR, DNV or any other classification society Neptun prepares full set of required drawings and documentations in line with the latest rules and regulations.

Detail design
Theory and practical know-how enters into construction

The Detail Design (DD) as the third step is the largest part of our planning work. Whether standard or individual requirements of clients, architects and consultants: Neptun’s Detail Design contains precisely defined engineering solutions for manufactures and gives full and easy understanding of design items. On base of high-standard 3D model (3DM) the detail design includes all data necessary and sufficient for detailed design documentation.

Our conversion makes your ship run profitably

Long delivery periods in new building, premium prices due to high demand and fully stretched shipyard capacities, rate changes for cargo and charter…ship owners’ planning is subject to these market fluctuations short term and long term. Thus conversion may already be necessary shortly after delivery.

In the conversion design phases of Feasibility Studies, Basic and Detail Design Neptun accurately meets all conversion requirements according the nature of your ship conversion (major or minor) which determined by classification society finally.

Especially in the stage of Feasibility Studies and consulting our clients get excellent overviews concerning substantial changes of ships features or structural parameters. As a result in the early design stage, clients clearly see the change of e.g. principal dimensions, cargo or passenger capacity, extension of service intervals or changes in classification requirements.

Steel structure
Link spans ? a unique hallmark of Neptun Ship Design

A tried and tested speciality of Neptun's structural engineering is the design and construction of link spans. All necessary kinematic, static and strength analyses of link span structures are carried out with CAD and FEM programs. Configuration of steel construction concepts is made after analysing technical marginal conditions and customers parameters.
Main costumers are the ferry port authorities of the cities of Rostock, Lübeck-Travemünde, Hamburg, Sassnitz, Puttgarden, Cuxhaven, Blexen and Trelleborg.

Structural analyses and expertises

One of the outstanding competencies of Neptun is the field of static and strength analyses. Within the design of ships and steel structures as well as for the structural engineering all the miscellaneous structural analyses will be realized with efficient computation programmes as ANSYS, R-FEM (Dlubal) or GL-Frame (Poseidon). Neptun's state of the art analyses are characterised by incorporation of newest rules and regulations such as Common Structural Rules (CSR).
